My current rig is some random 8gb ram with an XFX DD R9 270x and an i7 4770, thinking about crossfire R9-270x or upgrading ram or just buying a new GPU, what would increase the perfomance the most?

Solution
Buying an GPU would be first option if not using video rendering or ram eating stuff, if playing games GPU upgrade is priority.
1060 6GB would be best choice for 1080p 60fps gaming
Hahahhahaha, good one but i think 970/980 would be good alternative as for 780 (but you need 550W high quality or 650W psu).

I can say, more graphic details=more ram. Everything is connected.
780 was just an example, same as 7870 3GB can still game very well, my obsolete for technology is 10 years apart, like Q6600 cant do anything with 9800GT but still can play Esport games.

The newer generation GPUs do more with less power, so I'd always recommend the 1060 over a 980Ti even if the 980 is slightly faster...plus if you get the 6GB version you'll have more/faster video ram. If you are gaming and using 8GB of system ram and not swapping out, then more ram won't help anything.
