I'm happy! My XP1800+ @ 2400+ should be enough! Will only have to change my GPU!

This is useless info. According to these sources a XP2400+ with a FX5200 would be able to run the game in all its glory.

We know this to be false.

Useless info... Yes and No!

Of course we all know that the minimum for decent performance will be Radeon 9600 PRO or GeForceFX 5700 with a 2.4GHz CPU. But, software studios have to make a system requirement recommendation, and Valve officially made it! It will be interesting to test HL2 with the MINIMUM system. The game will probably play at 640x480 with not much details special effects! But, will it run at decent FPS? I doubt it!

By the way, Scamtron edited your post??? What did he removed???

I think you have that backwards, for decent perfromance that should read an R9600 or an FX5700U.

The R9600Pro matches the Fx5900U when DX9/PS2.0 is an issue in this game.

BTW, when Scammy edits his posts he removes all wit, sense of self, and the soft chewy centre.

Valve has said numerous times that they have added lots of customization to the visuals in HL2, allowing computers far inferior to what you would expect to play it. The "in all its glory" is probably quite a stretch as UT2004 needs 1024 to run well and thats a greatly inferior engine.

You are right! I can't believe I still underestimate the power of the Radeon 9600PRO in DX9/PS2.0 or I still overestimate to power of GeForceFX cards in DX9/PS2.0.

I never took the time to get the HL2 beta! What was your resolution/quality settings on your P2-500 and R9200?

Sincerely, they say nothing at all.

It depends A LOT on the resolution you use, details/quality level, AA/Aniso, etc. Also DirectX 8 cards will be able to play it, but without a lot of the eye candy.

So what's the minimum? What is recommended and for what?

Only benchmarks will tell ...

Still looking for a good online retailer in Spain :frown:

And, you could run HL2 on max graphics with 4xAA/16xAniso with a 6800 GT/X800 P class card with only a AXP1900 & 512mb PC2100 backing it, lol. The games are far more dependent on video cards than they are on the CPU, which in any well designed game engine will be almost completely reliant on the graphics card for visuals, on the sound card for audio, and CPU for AI and a few other calculations. Supposedly the video demos were run on a 9700 P, 2.0GHz P4(400 fsb), 512mb PC2100, and it was maxed graphics, although it runs a bit framey in a few parts, it ran pretty smooth in most. If you are a serious gamer, you will probably have at least a 9600 P class card.
