Getting 100Mbps not 200Mbps download speed

I have a desktop PC with Windows 7 Pro and a 'Gigabyte G41M-Combo' motherboard.

My internet provider has recently increased the download speed from 100Mb to 200Mb. On a speedtest I'm getting 100Mb down but can't go any faster. When a technician arrived he plugged his laptop in and it showed 200Mb+ download.

I've gone into the driver settings for the network adaptor and set the speed/duplex to 1.0 Gbps but I still can't get over 100Mbps.

What's wrong with my setup ??

Thanks.

Well, seems I've solved it. A few posts back I said I had a newer driver than the one on Gigabyte website, well I downloaded and installed the 'older' one and the download speed is now around 170Mbps.

FYI the driver I had was v2.1.0.21 Tue Jul 16; the driver on the website is v2.0.15.16 Wed Apr 25.

Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated.
Try a different ethernet cable. Some older or chinese cables are missing wires in the inside which give you a higher bandwidth. I don't think that your computer itself could be the issue.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

The cable is 5E.

The network adaptor (in Device manager) is 'Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20)' and it's version 2.1.0.21.

The LAN driver on Gigabyte's driver download website is actually older than the one I've got which is strange.

I spoke to them on the phone and they said my system was running at 200/50Mb. When the techies came around and plugged their laptop into my router a speedtest showed 250Mb+ whereas I can't get more than 100Mb

Did he plug his laptop directly into the modem, or into your router? (Assuming you have a separate router and cable modem.)
