Getting 2 hd 7770, 600 extreme coolermaster PSU enough

hi guyz,

Well thats the question, im planning on getting 2 hd 7770, and the only "good" quality i can get here in my city for 70$ is that one: the 600watt extreme PSU from coolermaster,

So i know each hd 7770 requieres 150watt, so that would be 300 watt, planning on just having 1 hdd, 1 dvd rom and and i5 with a z77 motherboard.

Maybe i would like to have the chance to add an ssd in the future.

What does the PSU have on the 12v rails? That is what really matters.

That thing should be labeled as a 450W PSU.

Running (2) HD 7770s requires a PSU with 33A on the 12V rail; AMD specifies a 600W PSU, but amps on the 12V rail is more important. A good quality 550W PSU like the XFX Core 550W with 44A on the 12V rails is enough for your rig.

What are some other PSU mfrs that you can get? Antec? Corsair? XFX? Seasonic? beQuiet? Enermax? PC Power and Cooling? FSP? Superflower?

I knew i had to look to the 12v rail, but i didnt know what a hd7770 requieres, so the PSU has only 18A so its a piece of *** basicly. Well the also have the 750W gamer edition. but here in my city is like 140$ :S

I can try another place that sells only thermaltake, i suppossed those are good quality? and then i should focus on them having 44amps on each 12v rail right?

The Thermaltake Toughpower series is a relly good PSU and the TR2 series is decent. You don't need 44A on each 12V rail; 33A minimum, but a 36-40A combined would be good. If there are multiple 12V rails, then you can't simply add the amps up. You have to take the max 12V continuous watts rating and divide by 12 to get the max continuous amps capacity. 432W on the combined 12V rails or greater would meet the 36A recommendation that I gave above.

yeah but that doesnt work allways as we saw with the coolermaster, ill just check out the label on the side of the PSU's... so got it ill look for a toughpower or TR2 tomorrow and ill let you know.

No no no...Thermaltake power supplies are if anything worse than Coolermaster. The TR2 is so bad out of spec it can be dangerous. A few of the Toughpower units are decent but they are hit and miss depending on the wattage. Just for that reason I would never recommend one.

The only brands that are good across the board are Corsair, Seasonic, PC Power and Cooling, XFX, Silverstone, Enermax, OCZ and Antec. You can easily find a unit from one of these brands in your price range.

so thanks for all the info guyz, u got me to know what matters when buying a Power supply. I have no option reggarding powersupplies, i can buy them in another city but it would cost almost 160$ for a OCZ 550W power supply. i went back to the store and saw another coolermaster power supply, the 700w silent pro, it has 2 six pin conector (what i need) and 50 amps on the 12v rail. I didnt buy it at the moment cause wanted to check it out on hardwaresecrets, and its a nice suprise to see it works very well, allways above 80% (its bronze 80%). its a 120$ and since a got no other choice ill buy it tomorrow.

So im just gonna w8 for you to post ur thoughts and then ill give the best answer 😉 thanks a lot

The CM Silent Pro is a good series of PSUs. I think you'll be be happy ...and so will your PC.

The CM Silent Pro is actually one of the few decent PSU's CM actually sells. If that's your only option then take it. We usually don't recommend Cm because of their crappy PSU's and the resulting reputation they get but eh... at least you got the guts to come to us for help!
