Hello guys,
Need help here.
Thinking of a buying a new graphics card.

After considering the cost i have come up with a gpu solution: XFX Geforce 9500GT.It comes with a 512 or 1024mb video memory.

So the present processor is phenom 955 be.My lcd screen supports a maximum of 1368x768 resolution.
Should i consider the 512 or the 1024 video memory?
my present ram is 2gb ddr3 1333MHz ram.

Should i upgrade to a 3/4gb memory.i was considering only the gpu upgrade but if my memory will become a bottleneck then i will consider it too.

I was thinking if i go for 1gb for graphics memory which is gddr3(i think)then should i go for the extra memory or vice versa.

Also with that extra video ram what difference will i get in the game?

would the stock 450w supply(i don't know what manufacturer,yet a really cheap one)be ok with my new card.Should i consider a 500w or higher?

Guys if i buy a radeon/geforce gpu later would i be able to use this 9600gt as a physx card or combine their use?

Sorry for asking too many questions in a single thread.

Thanks in advance...

At 1368x768 the 512mb version should be fine, I think so unless you ever consider changing monitor I go 512mb one
The 1gb version should be faster only above 1680 x 1050 while below the difference is hardly noticeable

I don`t think 2 gigs should bottleneck your video card though. Should help loading games faster but most of the games today, like Crysis do not use more than 2 gigs of RAM

What motherboard are you using?
Can not say much about your PSU. The 9500GT does not consume much power and a quality 450W should handle it easily but since you said it`s a really cheap one I can`t say much
if you could get the name of the PSU or the number of Watts on the +12V rail

my budget is ~5k in Indian rupees.
The problem here is that not all graphics cards are available here, and i get to choose from the available models.

Here is the available list. Please select the best one.
Kindly order them in a decreasing order of their performance.

Memory Model Price in INR
512MB 9600GT PCX-16X, DDR3 ~ 4575
512MB 9800GT PCX-16X, DDR3 ~5550
1GB GT240 PCX-16X, DDR3 ~5600
1GB HD4670 PCX-16X,DDR3 ~4600
512MB HD3850 ATI PCX-16X, ~5500

The GTS250,4770,48xx prices are higher and above my budget. Also the only HD5xxx models available are of their higher series and cannot consider that.

All 1gb versions are priced only little higher and even some are available only in 1gb version.

Now considering the 9600gt,with a different series geforce(expecting a gtx 2xx later),which of these options are possible:
1.An SLI or
2.A Physx setup

i fear that both are incompatible on my motherboard. My motherboard says it has crossfire X and hybrid crossfire support.

Or with a radeon card later,i can do a physx setup for sure.right?

My motherboard is ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO.
Here is a link:

Your motherboard is not SLI and the second slot is x4 which makes it basically useless for SLI/crossfire anyway(you can't use two different cards for SLI anyway.) It should be ok for using the 9600GT as a dedicated physx card however. That will only be particularly useful in a handful of games though.
