Getting a Radeon R9 270 for Christmas, will I need a new PSU too?

I have seen a thread on here 5 days ago about the same card and same psu but I do have different configurations. I have the Antec Basiq 450W psu paired with a amd FX-6300, gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 soon to fill case with all the fans it can support I will have 2 Hard drives with the Radeon R9 270 specifically the MSI Twin Frozr version. Now I do plan on overclocking the card more then I want to OC the processor so I can squeeze as much fps as I can out of the card, So if I need to bump the PSU should I try and find a deal on a bigger one? Or would I be ok with the dual 18A rails?

well your psu is not the strongest one, but I would try it first, if its not enough your system will throttle and you'll notice that. Then get something like 500 W with 40-45A single rail. Like Corsair CX500 or Evga 500W (this one is better and I have it so I know), but try yours first as your system won't need more than 450W even with overclock it's just how your psu handle's it. hope it helps. I overclocked mine fx 6300 to 4.8GHz on air, paired with HD 7970 GHz edition, Asus 970 evo, couple SSD and EVGA handles it with no problems. hope it helps. Have fun

Alright, thanks! If it does work then that money can be used for an ssd or more ram as I have 4gb right now. If not a local computer store, Microcenter is having a sale on the CX500 and 600 (after rebates they are 5 bucks apart $50/$55) and the Evga 500b is 50 dollars also so sweet

Anyways thanks for the quick response

Heh, you're going with roughly the same build I did.

450w will most definitely be enough. It's actually kinda perfect, as you'll be near full load more often, which is when the PSU is most efficient.

If ever in doubt as to what wattage you'll need, there's this handy PSU Wattage Calculator:

http://www.thermaltake.outervision.com/

Also, I'd stay away from the CX series of PSU's, they use Chinese components, and won't last too long. There's a reason they're on sale :p

Aye, the Japanese capacitors make a huge difference in reliability. Thermaltake can be hit or miss...I usually stick with the trusted brands like Seasonic, Antec, or Corsair (Just not the CX line :p)

I'd also recommend something like this Rosewill Capstone series (A rebranded Sunflower PSU, quite good, just stay away from anything not Capstone, with Roswill):
