Getting a wrong CPU speed message on startup

Hello everyone. This is my first foray into the forums so please bear with me.

I have an old (2008-ish) PC that I put together that recently started having issues. At the moment, during POST it will restart and go into BIOS setup with a message saying that the previous boot failed due to an incorrect CPU speed.

The mobo is an Abit IS-10 865G, and the chip is an Intel Pentium 4 530 Prescott 3.0Ghz.

Now when on the setup menu, the speed displays properly as 3000Mhz. The only other option there is to set it to Manual. Usually once I select to Exit and Save, the system will then boot up fine.

The PC is running Windows XP with I believe 4Gb of RAM.

Any suggestions/comments welcome.

Posting an update in case this helps anything. The PC in question seems to work fine once it gets started, but it takes about 3 tries before it gets there.

Could this be as simple as a dead battery on the mobo?

Another update- the PC is now failing to even get to POST. Help?
