I’m not sure what you mean. I only have the new one in (1x16)Memory manufacturers don't guarantee compatibility with those kind of oddball combinations.
Workarounds to get extra memory to work include:
Lower memory clock speed
Relax DRAM timings
Increase DRAM voltage

Clearing CMOS when changing memory may help. Be sure to enable Extreme Memory Profile (X.M.P.).
