Last week I had my laptop on but was away from it for a few hours. While I was gone, it installed Windows Updates. When I came back to the computer I was prompted to log in, as it had automatically restarted, and I noticed that my screen looked strange - my desktop wallpaper and icons were all there and looked right, but the start button and bottom menu were gray and kind of looked like how I remember Windows 98. Just in case something bad had happened I did a System Restore to a point just a few days prior. After that, when I booted up, it got to the "Microsoft Corporation" loading screen and it stuck there. I left it for an hour of that green bar scrolling back and forth and never got to the log-on screen. It did the same in Safe Mode. So I did a system repair using a Vista recovery disc, and it told me the repair was successful, but when I booted up after that I immediately got the Blue Screen of Death. No error codes, just a blank blue screen that wouldn't go away. Same thing in Safe Mode. I was able to use Ubuntu to access and back up my files, so I'm pretty sure it isn't the hard drive. I've reached the end of my (admittedly limited) knowledge of computers. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I'd appreciate anything! Thanks.
