The system detected an overrun of a stack-based buffer in this application. This overrun could potentiall allow a malicious user to gain control of this application. Getting this error from today, what can I do to fix this? Windows 10 20H2, Build 19042.746

What he said but also...
once its completed, copy/paste this command into same window:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
and press enter

SFC fixes system files, second command cleans image files, re run SFC if it failed to fix all files and restart PC

Scan PC for Virus or Malware
Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any Microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows
if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program causing the problem. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

Might need to do a repair install - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/16397-repair-install-windows-10-place-upgrade.html

other choices i find are more drastic so we see if these work first

I tried this https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows , didn't work. To be honest I don't want to do a repair install

Repair Install - all it removes are Cumulative updates, it takes windows back to base build on 20H2. then windows just grabs 5 updates and you should be back to normal. You shouldn't lose any data or anything really.

Still helps to copy anything off C you can't afford to lose, just in case. But I think its normally okay
