Getting files from an old Hard Drive

I took an old 320GB WD Hard drive out of an old laptop and I want the information from it. I have a port on the top of my tower that I can plug it into. The harddrive powers up, and my computer reads it. The problem is that it won't let me do anything with it unless I format it, but there should still be my old stuff on it like picture and music that I want. Is there a way to retrieve or recover that info?

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. 🙁
How does it appear under Disk Management?
I guess you can use some data recovery tool in order to retrieve the data: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html
After that, you can test the drive with WD's DLG tool: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Mmno2N

That worked awesome! There were a lot of files that were described an Unrecoverable but it still worked on all of them. Thank you for your help!

It's great that you've sorted this out.
You can keep an eye on the drive's health with WD's DLG tool. Just test it from time to time.
