Getting FPS Drops While Gaming

Lately I've been getting fps drops randomly while gaming. Sometimes it just hiccups and skips for less than a second. Other times the fps just goes to crap for 4 seconds or so then back to normal. My temps are never crazy and I should have enough memory right? What are the steps to finding the reasoning to fps drops?

What games are you playing? 8GB RAM is kind of on the low end. Some games recommend you have at least 12GB minimum.
