Hello !

I'm a TOTAL NOOB when it comes to overclocking, I simply don't know anything about it. Actually, I'm a noob when it comes to PC Hardware

I checked my specs and it shows my FX-8320 is running @ 3.5 ghz and 4 cores (that part confuses me as it has 8 cores?)

I thought I'd like to change my CPU settings from stock 3.5 ghz to turbo speed @ 4.0 but I learned to not use the turbo core at all.

Here are my specifications:
CPU: AMD FX-8320 Black Edition
Motherboard: Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 (rev.4.0)
Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

CPUID HW Monitor temperatures (in celsius) when nothing goes on:
AMD FX-8320, Package : Value: 35, Min: 31, Max: 43

And the other temperature (Gigabyte technology so I guess the motherboard)
System: Value 43, Min 42, Max 43
CPU: Value 50, Min 48, Max 52
TMPIN2: Value 33, Min 30, Max 45

First of all, is it safe to change it to 4.0 ghz on this motherboard ?

If so...I would REALLY appreciate if someone would post how to do it in a simpliest and safest way. What to turn off in UEFI, what to change etc.

Thank you

Overclocking the FX 8320 to 4Ghz shouldn't be difficult. To do it right and get the best overclock there are many things that should be set properly in bios and you really should overclock using both multiplier and fsb. I'm going to post a few guides that you can use to learn about overclocking and get your settings right. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

A good video to watch and he overclocks using fsb - I have always found it best to get half your overclock with the multiplier and half with fsb overclocking (which will improve your single core performance more).

This...
Yes, that board is fine for overclocking. Turn off Turbo Mode in BIOS and increase the CPU clock multiplier to 20. Save and reboot. The clock speed will stay at 4GHz unless you have Cool and Quiet enabled to lower clock speed when idle.

Edit: I had a typo, the multiplier should be set to 20, not 40.

This video is more or less just for fun, but it is a master overclocker walking you through a 5Ghz overclock on the FX 8370E

+1 you don't want to set the multiplier to 40 as that would be an 8Ghz overclock and never has a chance of posting. I would suggest setting the multiplier at 19 and then set the bus from 200 to 211 utilizing the guides to set your voltages and NB settings.
