Hi everyone! Not sure if this is in the right section, but this was the best fit I could find. So my router (apple airport base) is in my basement. I need to get the internet to run all the way up to the second floor because the wireless N network really only works well in the basement and main floor. Unfortunately our builder never wired us ethernet ports along with our phone jacks. What would be the best solution without running new wire? Is there a way to convert the phone jack wires to ethernet? Do one of those power line converters work well? I would really like to avoid having to drill for new wires. Thanks!

Power line works okay if your wiring is good. It is adequate to connect the network and get Internet access, but generally too slow to stream video of any high quality. The 500mbps generally achieve speeds up to 100mbps close by and somewhat lower at a distance. Here is a good site with comparisons of most units: http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/lanwan/powerline-charts/view

Your best bet if you can, would be to run a single CAT5e cable up and attach a wireless access point or router configured as an access point. If you can't do that then use the power line adapters to get the signal up to a top floor AP.
