I start my first class in my basic networking CC in two days. I'm sure I will know soon enough, but I just wanted a heads up on what I will need in my arsenal to start off. All I have right now is my TF101, which I can't imagine is good for more than taking notes in class, and my mom's aging Dell desktop which isn't very pleasant to work on. So besides the obvious laptop, what should I expect to spend money on?

Both of these tools are very useful for networking:

Also a Cisco Console cable (the light blue one) very handy.
If you don't have a serial port on your laptop a usb to serial adapter is very useful for connecting to switches.
A straight 5m Ethernet cable, a crossover cable and even a ethernet cupler.

But I wouldn't rush into buying anything untill you are sure you need it!

One last thing I would advise would be, if you plan on getting a laptop, choose something as lightweight as possible...
I use all these things in everyday service calls.
