Sorry if I didn't pick the correct category.
When watching full screen videos or playing games, sometimes the screen freezes with little blue squares all over screen. Before I wiped my computer last week it used to completely freeze with red/purple dots all over and sometimes made a screeching noise, but now the problem has gotten "better" but still not stopping.
What I have:
ASUS n61jq, windows 7, ATI mobility radeon HD5730 card, intel core i7
I had one of the IT guys at my work play around with it and he reinstalled everything and made sure all drivers are updated, so according to him everything should be fine. The problem remains but it changed to where the video will keep playing in the background with the blue dots over it before it freezes and it will reset itself. A little pop up window in the bottom right says AMD driver wasn't working and it reset itself (something along those lines). Once I got a BSOD. I downloaded WhoCrashed and it says it is a bug and not hardware but has to do with tcpip.sys. I am also able to quickly ctrl alt delete which makes it stop when it goes back to the screen. Before it was wiped, it had to be restarted by holding down the power button because nothing would respond.
I checked the registry with CCleaner and it fixed everything there but the problem persists.
I tested my RAM and it's fine.
My IT coworker thinks it's a hardware issue since everything is new. I don't understand how it could be hardware when it ONLY happens during full screen video and the problem improved but didn't go away after wiping and reinstalling/updating drivers, etc.
The only thing I can think of that is still abnormal on my laptop is that I'm getting notifications that I need to replace my battery because it's going bad. No idea if that would have anything to do with it.
I'll bring it in if I have to but I'd really like to figure it out myself (meaning from you)
Thanks!
Rachelle
