I'm switching over from an AMD processor and ASUS motherboard to all Intel and I was wondering what would be best. On my previous rig, I was able to edit, render, and export full 1080p HD videos and play most current video games on all max settings, all by overclocking, though. The graphics card I have is a Radeon 7950.
I'm trying to be somewhat cost effective here, so I just wanted some advice on what would be best. From the research I gathered, for my needs it seems like an i5 processor would be just fine, but I was curious if there would be any real benefit to shelling out the extra $100 for the i7? That's my biggest dilemma here, because I'n just not sure if it's worth it in the long run to just get the i7. Also not really sure how much of a difference it would make performance wise when it comes to editing and whatnot.
My next question is what would be the best motherboard to use? The ASUS I was using is an ASUS M5A97 R2.0, so I was wondering what the best motherboard is that's compatible with i5 (or maybe i7), especially for my needs in both gaming and video editing. That motherboard seemed to work just fine before, so I was curious if one of the Intel compatible motherboards around that price range (i.e. an MSI H87-G43 or something along those lines) would be able to suit all of my needs.
Thanks so much for reading this and I appreciate any answers and help that I could get!
