Question getting ready for a cpu upgrade, what are things i should expect with amd?

held back using the 3700x for a while now (back story: i got my 1070 for free from my math teach and along side he gave me aton of ddr4 ram and a 3700x, the 3700x apparentley had a stability issue even at stock clock.), but now im considering using it in my system. this is the first time using an amd in a build, so what are some things i should expect with amd?

Try updating the BIOS to latest version and run the ram at the rated XMP profile. See how that goes. AM4 is a mature platform 'TM', you shouldn't face any problems by now.

Might as well get the B550 and make use of pcie 4.0

IIRC, B450 still used gen 3.

eh its not like i trully care about storage speeds but i get it.

Not just storage speeds, even the GPUs. the X16 pcie slot is also gen 3.

would it effect preformance if i went the b450m route? im asking because i found the alot cheaper than b550 mobos.

You might be ok with mid tier GPUs for now. But cannot say the same for future generations. It also depends on if the card is on a X16 bus or X8 bus. A PCIE 5.0 card with X8 bus running in pcie 3.0 will be starved for memory bandwidth.

SSDs ,might still go upto 3000mbps sequential speeds, if you are ok with that, go ahead.

There would also be other things like USB 10gbps and 20 gbps ports, wifi 6 instead of 6E ect.
