getting speckles and distortion on screen

Today a family member's laptop startd showing blue dots everywhere and purple flashes, text distorted across the screen etc.
I though it might be a GPU problem but when I connected via Teamviewer, the same issue showed, which makes me think it's software otherwise the screen would be fine?
ANy ideas what to try?

Started in safe mode and the problem does not happen. Does this mean it is software related? I cannot restore as the computer says there is no restore to use.

Running the card on base VGA drivers like you do in safe mode usually hides issues if it is a hardware issue. If there is no restore point, you can manually uninstall the video drivers, then run the DDU program to wipe them fully, and install new drivers from the vendor support site. Do not use nVidia drivers, get them from the laptop vendor site.
