[SOLVED] Getting storport.sys BSOD on startup(SOLVED)

About a month or so ago my PC crashed hard. The screen suddenly became messed up with graphical artifacts and frozen, and I've been having issues since then.

1. I had an NVMe SSD for the Windows OS and a regular SSD for storage.
2. My PC shut down on me and I couldn't boot back up. It kept saying it couldn't find the boot device.
3. I thought my NVMe drive died or was dying on me, but I've run chkdsk and Samsung's program for testing hard drives and I see no errors. Not only that, I went and bought a new, smaller NVMe and it didn't have any issues. However, if I put my old one back, the motherboard(ASRock x470 fatality mini itx) will randomly stop seeing it. Which is what I think caused the boot issue. I also put the old NVMe in an external enclosure and it didn't have any issues when connected via USB 3.1.
4. I bought a new SSD and installed the OS on it. But now I'm getting the storport.sys BSOD almost every time on the first boot attempt after being shut down. The PC will restart after logging the BSOD and then boot up just fine.
5. I haven't installed any of the motherboard drivers after completely installing the OS brand new. But I don't think that would really cause any issues seeing as how the latest drivers are a couple of years old anyway, and it's not like it can't completely boot.
6. I've also noticed that sometimes Windows becomes a bit weird. I can't pull up the start menu, the clock and sound that's at the bottom right corner, but everything else is running fine.

So I need a second opinion, because I can't help but think that the motherboard is dying on me, and maybe I'm missing something here. I don't know if it's the PSU(HD Plex) instead either.

Can you follow option one on the following link - here - and then do this step below: Small memory dumps - Have Windows Create a Small Memory Dump (Minidump) on BSOD - that creates a file in c windows/minidump after the next BSOD

1. Open Windows File Explore
   
2. Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidump
   
3. Copy the mini-dump files out onto your Desktop
   
4. Do not use Winzip, use the built in facility in Windows
   
5. Select those files on your Desktop, right click them and choose 'Send to' - Compressed (zipped) folder
   
6. Upload the zip file to the Cloud (OneDrive, DropBox . . . etc.)
   
7. Then post a link here to the zip file, so we can take a look for you . . .

what are specs of the PC?

apart from the obvious that its storport.sys crashing at startup, this makes me think actual cause is a driver. it may not be storport.
try turning fast startup off and see if it stops errors from happening - https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4189-turn-off-fast-startup-windows-10-a.html
if you have an ssd as boot drive, you don't need Fast Startup on anyway.

its not an actual fix, more a bandage. Probably need to look at other drivers installed and see what is there I can replace. Depending on age of PC, it might be the best choice

There is a BIOS update available for your system. You are using version 1.3. Wait for additional information before deciding to update or not. Important: Verify that I have linked to the correct motherboard. Updating your BIOS can be risky. Never try it when you might lose power (lightning storms, recent power outages, etc).

stornvme is also mentioned in the errors so if we don't use that driver it might work better
they all happen after stornvme!NVMeControllerInitPart2 which makes me think it could be the drivers.

It's been a few days since I've downloaded the drivers and installed them. I haven't gotten any BSODs thus far. I think it's safe to say that this was the issue. Thanks a lot! I originally had the OS on this NVME, until my PC crashed hard. I wonder if the crash corrupted the drivers somehow. I've never seen that happen before.
