My wireless steelseries 800 headset comes with a converter that takes optical in and create virtual 7.1 surround sound. I can use USB to get sound instead, but it sounds very flat in comparison.
My new 450b motherboard however comes with 5 analogue audio jacks that uses a Realtek AL892 audio chip which to my understanding offers 7.1-channel High Definition audio. There is no optical S/PDIF port however..
I (stupidly) thought I'd be able to just buy a toslink to 3.5mm jack converter that I could plug into my line out audio jack and into the headsets optical in, however that has yielded absolutely no sound whatsoever.
Now I am confused, how do I get good surround sound from my pc, preferably using this headset?
Thanks for all help
