Getting weird freezes when gaming

I just assembled a new pc. I started trying out some games and i'm getting weird freezes that freeze the whole system and sometimes my system just shuts the game down. Temperatures are not high since i monitored them. No blue screens.

System
Cpu - fx 9590
Gpu - radeon r9 390
8gb ram
Mb - biostar ta970

I did some research and could it be that my 750w cheap psu is just not powerful enough and that's why games shut down?

I would say yes, that is a definite possibility.
Theres currently a $20 rebate on the evga g2 850w which is one of the best power supplies made but its still over $100...
