Hey all,
I'd like to get some advice on what graphics card to get next. At the moment ive got a very poor GeForce4 MX 64mg and its simply not cutting the mustard.

One of the main reasons i want to get a new card is to improve my FPS count in the new online game "Star Wars Galaxies" The reccomended specs are as follows.
64 MB 3D Graphics card with Vertex Shader and Pixel Shader (VS/PS) Capability and DirectX9 compatible.

Now, the 64mg ram on the card is a joke, so i'm looking at 128mg. Im undecided which of the following three cards would be good for what i need...

ATi Radeon 9800Pro 128mg (a bit expensive)
GeForce FX5900 128mg
ATi Radeon 9600Pro 128mg

Can anyone share with me some pearls of wisdom that could help me decide which card would be best.

The 9600pro is a good card and would probably suit your needs. Depending on how long you plan to stick with your card, the 9800pro could potentially be a better long term investment, but the 9600pro has a good price/performace ratio. It is to be expected that the release of the XT cards will drive down the price of the current pro models. I would stay away from the FX5900 at all costs.

The 5900 you mention (non-ultra) is not as good as the 9600 pro in some of the Dx 9 games, though it's price is close to the 9800 pro. You might want to look at the 9800 (non-pro) as it's a good middle ground between the 9600 pro and the 9800 pro.

is the ATi Radeon 9700 128mg PRO a viable option, its just boardering on my upper side of my price range.

How does it compair with the 9600 pro?

Thanks for your advice and apologies for silly questions :)

Illustrious
Yes, the 9700 has twice the pipelines and twice the memory bandwidth of the 9600 PRO. Much better card.

------------------
Radeon 9500 (modded to PRO w/8 pixel pipelines)
AMD AthlonXP 2400+ (O/C to 2600+ with 143 fsb)
3dMark03: 3586

Circuit City stil carries all of the above in BBA retail boxes. They even still sell AIW 9000pros. That's the only place I can remember recently seeing a 9700pro on the shelf. They are still floating around online though.
