So my GFX card broke, used my old one for a year or so, broke aswell.
My friend had a Nvidia gforce GTX460-GDDR5-1GB.
Bought it from him.
It requires a PCI-E 2.0 x16 slot... And im not quite sure if it will work on my com.

My motherboard is a MSI P965 platinum, it mentions it has 2x x16 slots, if its 2.0 i dont know...
Im terrible at computer's so any help would be much appreciated.

Kind regards

According to this reply to some other persons problem, the gtx460 should work on my mobo if i have a PSU that can supply it?.

"My good old P965 Platinum has lost its graphics card lately and I need to look for a replacement.

The old graphics card was an ATI X1950 XTX 512MB and has stood up well considering the vast advances in everything since then.

The problem is compatability since all new cards these days are PCI Express 3.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what newer graphics cards would work on this motherboard (if any)?"

"We had excellent results with GTS450 and GTX460 on MSI P965 Platinum.
But they are PCI-E 2.0 graphic cards.
You may also try GTX 650 and GTX 660, but it may fail in case of BIOS/VBIOS incompatibilities.
In any case, you need a good (single rail) PSU (at least 450W for real).
The additional PCI-E power connector is a must, because the PCI-E 1.0 slot cannot provide the power for a PCI-E 2.1 and 3.0 graphics card."

Hmm thanks for quick replys guys... Hm, gonna format my computer (was gonna install win 8 anyways)...
When you say gen 1 does it mean PCI-E 1.0 / 2.0 / 3.0 etc?

I found out my mobo is a P965 Platinum ms-7238 not sure if there is a difference? 😵
