Hi,

I got my first ultrawide monitor yesterday, the Asus TUF Gaming VG34VQL1B 34". It was on sale and I've been looking for an affordable uw-monitor for the past few years to play FFXIV on. It was on sale and I got it. I did a lot of research into the panel types etc and VA panels got a lot of slack for having ghosting problems etc, but this monitor was "praised" to have low ghosting effect.

I've had a pretty terrible experience so far in the last 48 hours of using the display. In FFXIV I don't really see that much of ghosting but for example in minecraft and in netflix the ghosting is really noticeable. My question is that is it something that I can "fix" in color settings etc or should I return the monitor? Is the monitor faulty? I don't want to spend 700€ on a monitor that I don't really see myself using on many of the games I play. I'm coming from TN and IPS-panels so I've never really had this problem before. I'm going to attach a link to a video I quickly took to show you the problem, it's not great but you can see my point.

I would like to know if you think the panel has a fault, since I need to fill in a document when I return it.

Thanks in advance.

Solution
VA has a slower response time than both TN and IPS, a certain amount of ghosting or motion blur is to be expected. However you might want to play with the overdrive modes, if your not playing at 165hz my advice would be to lower it and see if that helps.

It's very difficult to tell, but the video almost looks like inverse ghosting which would suggest an overdrive setting that's too high.

Thanks for your reply. I did mess around with the OD setting and it seems to be better when I set it to anywhere from 0-80. Setting it to 100 seems to be the biggest culprit to that green/blue noise. I need to try it on apex tho and see if I see any noticeable ghosting or noise on 40-80 OD. I'm also going to try and update the firmware, currently sitting on V008, I think it's outdated. Never updated a displays firmware tho. I'm going to return it if it still persists after that.
