Gift ideas for PC gamers?

My boyfriend’s birthday is coming up soon and out of all the ideas I come up with, nothing seems perfect enough and I’m worried he wouldn’t like it. I tried thinking of some kind of hardware I could get him but he seems to have everything (PC, headset, mouse, keyboard, Switch, Xbox, VR headset, etc.). He mainly games on PC and I know he’s mentioned possibly getting additional SSD storage but he hasn’t gotten any yet.
So I was thinking of getting him maybe 250 GB or 500 GB more (he already has 500 GB, I believe) plus a small thing, maybe something related to an inside joke or something. The thing is, I’m worried an SSD is a bit of a boring gift. I also was thinking of getting a custom mousepad with a specific photo printed on it instead of the SSD. I just want to make sure I get something he would be able to use instead of a random thing that might just sit around taking up space.
Should I go back and rethink my options or do you think this would be okay? If you received an SSD as a gift would you like it? Also if you have any suggestions for gifts, I'd really appreciate it! I know a few games he really likes are ARK, Minecraft, Terraria, and Mordhau. I was considering getting him a Steam gift card, since I can’t really go wrong with that (and apparently there's a sale starting pretty soon), but I feel like it’s not personal enough.

If I wanted an SSD and got one I would be happy. Whatever you do let him know you tried asking on a forum, I would appreciate the effort.

An idea for pc gaming. I have recently added a Hue colour light bulb to my pc room and connected via the wireless bridge. Using the PC Hue App the light changes according to the colour in the game. If you have multiple lights you can set them up so the colours are directional. Anyway it has been a great add on for gaming, I find it gives a new level of immersion. It might make a good present but be warned once you start buying Hue lights it gets addictive.

Thank you so much for the advice! This is super helpful and I think I have a better idea of what to get him now.

The problem I always seem to run into when I ask for PC gifts is even when I give them a link to exactly what I want, it's 50/50 if I actually get the part I asked for. I know you want it to be a surprise, but I'd still ask him specifically what he wants (make and model number and where to order/pick it up from).

Get what he asks as the "big" gift and then something more personal as a smaller gift. Something like this T-Shirt:

Maybe ask his friends too? It'll probably give you a better idea of what to give. I personally think that it doesn't HAVE to be video games related, I'm sure that he'll be happy with anything that's meaningful and yeah as someone mentioned before, makes him think about you every time

Op posted this about a month ago, so the boyfriends birthday must have passed since then…

But… i personally would appreciate any gift from my girlfriend……. That is, if i had one in the first place 😔
