Gigabit Ethernet is it worth it?

Hi,
Lightning just struck my modem and my router, model and lan card are burnt so im planning to buy a new one,

im currently on 1.5Mbps plan, question would be should i buy a router with gigabit Ethernet and would that improve online gaming performance?

It will be some time before you get any benefit from Gigabit Ethernet for online applications, but for your internal network I would get it. The price has really come down and it really increases the speed at which you can move data in your home. I have all my movies on a Thecus server with gigabit Ethernet and the speed makes a huge difference. I can watch different movies on different TV's while making backups of my notebook and server with out skipping a beat. I was having issues when my switches were 10/100, now that I upgraded everything runs smooth.
