Hi,

I am 100% new to overclocking. My buddy and I built my computer (he is a computer repair man), with an e6600, a gigabyte ds3 motherboard, and a noctua heatsink and cpu cooling fan. The problem is the fan has 3 connectors and the motherboard has 4. The fan works ok and is keeping temps low, I believe around 30 celsius under minor operating conditions. However, the fan reads a o rpm speed, which my buddy says that fourth connector would be reading the speed. So if I want to overclock, I will need to be able to adjust the fan speed, which right now does not seem possible since it is reading o rpm. I might be totally off base here because I am new to this whole thing, but any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Your DS3 should have some 3 pin connectors as well as 4 pin, try relocating the plug to them. Other than that you could buy a fan controller.

if its connected to the correct header for the cpu fan and the fan connector is a 3 pin and has 3 wires it should read the cpu fan speed, and in the bios you should also be able to set the fan type to voltage rather then PWM - standard gigabyte feature 😉
