Trying to decide which graphics card to purchase to start a new build out, going to slowly transition to a z170 system.
I have already updated to a Crucial MX100 256GB ssd from my seagate 1 terabyte and it is AMAZING. My case is a source 210 that I have slightly modified to have 3 fans in the front and dust filtering all around if that helps. My power supply is an EVGA 120-G1-750-KR which is 80 plus bronze so plenty of juice for either. I prefer Gigabyte because I have had EXCELLENT customer service and LOVE their design, but which one should I get?

The performance is quite similar, if your motherboard supports sli I would opt for the 970 in case you want to upgrade a lil further down the line, but your psu will not support two 390's I am afraid. Otherwise the 390 does have better performance, but that isnt really substantial but it is indeed faster.

In support of the 970 the g1 is a really good card among the fastest 970's available with plenty of overclocking ability.

If you think that once the 170 board and cpu is in place you wont sli then the 390 can be the better option. At this this time the additional ram on the 390 really offers nothing over the 970 in most situations.

Long story 970 if you want to upgrade some more and keep this an ongoing project

Short story go with...

i have 2 gigabyte 970 g1s and i love them. they're cool, quiet, and ek makes water blocks for them if you want to go with a water loop. be aware, they are very long. be sure you have room in your case for them.
