hey guys,

So the app center gave me a notification about an update and what it turned out to be was a F6 BIOS update, so i let it run and....it failed !!
Does anyone know why would it fail ?

Let alone that i tried many many times to flash that bios on a usb but the mobo just ignores my usb completely at boot screen but still reads it normally in windows

Solution

win 7 doesnt natively support USB 3.0, heres why:
on ryzen and skylake and above platforms, all the USB ports are running using the xHCI (USB 3.0) protocols. windows 7 does not have the USB 3.0 factory installed in it so it cannot recognize the USB ports and it only has USB 2.0 (EHCI) drivers factory installed. but on Ryzen and Skylake systems even the USB 2.0 ports use xHCI. to overcome this issue there are 2 ways:
1) use a custom win7 installation that has all the USB 3.0 drivers in it.
2) install USB 3.0 drivers from the driver DVD you get with the motherboard. but you will need a PS/2 mouse and a DVD drive to do this.
Yea that works to format the usb to fat32, now i updated the bios to f6 (the latest release from gigabyte) and it crashes ALOT. Im writing this reply from my phone as im unable to make it through windows !!
Did i damage something ?

wait!, dont do that just yet. roll back to the previous BIOS version

Ryzen is a really new platform and the motherboard makers didn't have enough time to make a polished BIOS like the ones present on the intel counterparts. i suggest you roll back to the previous BIOS version and dont update your BIOS for the next few weeks, by then the motherboard makers will have made a proper BIOS with no defects. you are lucky that you can still POST and reach the BIOS, other people updated their BIOS and their motherboards got bricked.

did you have any problems with BIOS version f5?

Nope, i didnt have any issues besides what people saying that new bios are more optimized for ryzen and here are the results

Ive removed the batteries and cleared cmos and still shows f6

looks like gigabyte too released a broken BIOS....
which specific motherboard do you have?

you will need access to a friend's PC or go to the cyber cafe, download the F5 BIOS file, copy it to the USB making sure that it is the only file present on the drive, take it to your PC and enter into your BIOS and run the update using Q-flash.

Okay so i rolled back to F5 BIOS version but all my usb sockets doesnt read anything while in windows.
It detects my mouse, usb, mobile and everything as long as im at the bios, once the windows boots nothing reads from the usb

which windows are you using?
