Gigabyte BIOS Question

I'm currently in the process of helping my friend build a pc. He ordered most of the parts the other day, and i have learned that he bought the i5-7600k, while his motherboard(which he ordered back in december), is a Gigabyte GA-H170-Gaming 3, which is an H170 motherboard. Is there any way he can get the version of the bios updated? Would he be able to contact Gigabyte for that?

If it doesn't have a compatible bios, then try to return it. If not, you can contact gigabyte for a solution or find a skylake cpu to put in to update it.

1. Get a skylake CPU if available to update the BIOS
2. Did his vendor sell it updated and ready to go?
3. Does it feature BIOS flashback?

Like i said, purchased in December, before kaby lake launched.
Also, I thought BIOS flashback was an ASUS Exclusive feature.

Skylake cpu will be needed for BIOS flashing. Cheapest probably is celeron g3900.

You can still try and ask the seller/retailer if it's still possible and give your friend an exception.

Only ASUS mobos support flashback afaik

Ah, my friend had an MSI Z170A XPOWER Gaming Titanium and he said he could flashback the BIOS or something with a USB. Didn't inquire much about it, thought that was a general/high end feature.

there is qbios, which lets you update with usb from the bios, that needs a cpu though that works
