Gigabyte EX38-DS4 and the extra 0.5x multiplier

I noticed that in the latest (F3) bios for the EX38-DS4 that there is a new setting that seems to add an extra 0.5x multiplier to the CPU (I believe it is the 2nd or 3rd option down in the overclock menu).
So, my 9x multiplier became a 9.5x = so I should be running the same as an E8500 - 3.16 Ghz without changing the FSB speed.

Has anyone tried this setting?

I own an EX38-DS4. Haven't tried it yet, but from what I've heard, it
only works on cpus already running on partial multiplier, such as the
Q9300's 7.5->8.



In any case, the X38 chipset board fsb can easily be oced above 2000mhz, so it's not really necessary either way.

On my motherboard it allows me to set my E8400 with a multiplier of 9.5. Apparently this setting does not allow a locked multiplier to be exceeded.

Even though I can set it to 9.5 in the bios, the CPU will still only run at the locked 9.0.
