I recently upgraded from a GTX960 (Gigabyte, 4gb OC model) to the G1 rx480. I had absolutely no problems with my last GPU. Since upgrading, i've been having issues non stop.

My issue, is that, when gaming, the whole computer (please forgive me if my terminology is wrong) is crashing. The whole screen will go one solid colour (black, grey and what not), when it does happen an 'rrrr' sound plays through the speakers. The computer becomes unresponsive. Windows key, ctl+alt+del does nothing. I have to cut power to the system & restart it.

It happens so long into a game. 15 mintues, 25 minutes but usually no longer than 30 minutes.
The games I have tested are:
PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds: Yes (I understand this is a beta version, but should not be giving me this problem)
Rust: Yes (Same as PUBG)
Sims 4: yes
But it does not happen with an array of low demanding games (sega all stars racing etc)
Those are the main games I do play at the moment, I have tested the games with my old card & they have no problems at all.

To try and fix this issue, I have changed the fan speeds in Wattman to Max (constantly) & reduced the power by 28% in Wattman aswell. This has stopped the issue from occuring 95% of the time.

My specs:
CPU: i5-6400
RAM: 16gb 2133mhz ddr4
GPU: RX480 G1 8gb
PSU: 1200w Cougar CMX
SSD: 250gb Samsung Evo
HDD: 1TB Seagate Caviar Blue
MB: GA-z170xp-sli

My case is an NZXT s340, with the 2 stock fans, I have an AIO cooler for my CPU by Deepcool (sorry, i forget the model) & an extra fan (So i have 2 intakes on the front of the case). I have heard that the s340 does have airflow issues, so i took the side panel off, which did not remedy the issue.

All of my drivers & BIOS are up-to-date (old GPU drivers were removed with DDU)

My mind is blank as to what the problem of this is. The PSU is brand new & will supply more than enough power. My components work flawlessly (minus the GPU of course), as they've only been purchased 6 months ago.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you for reading my overly long post =)

Solution
Power supply or video card issue. Maybe motherboard possibly the drivers. Test the card in another system with a known good power supply. Check for a BIOS update for the motherboard. You have more than one PCIe slot, try another slot.
