Gigabyte GA-667PE

Gigabyte GA-667PE
P4 2.6c / 800fsb
256mb Corsair XMS3200

I got my hands on a 2nd hand (untested) Gigabyte GA-667PE motherboard, and i tested it by shoving in my P4c (which posted as 1.3ghz/400mhz or half the speed) and my stick of corsair, it locked up twice within two minutes... is that expected when you use FSB800 / newer chips with that board? or could it be my stick of corsair (it used to play up in my system when the ram was running at 266mhz with auto timings). Im trying to get a faster 2nd machine for LAN games, im thinking of buying a celeron for it but i dont know wether its stable... what are some sugetsions??

What do you mean locked up, do you mean in Windows?

Unstable - first locked up while detecting hdd's (didnt have any pluged in) and second within the bios... my asus p4p800-s doesnt like the corsair at 266mhz with auto memory timings (works with manual at 2-2-2-5) and locks up occasionally because of it... would my P4c cause the lockups on the board in the bios since it is designed for fsb800??? i dont want to spend $$$ on it if it doesnt work...

I doubt your board can support 800 bus stabley.

I aint testing it at fsb 800 (IF YOU KINDLY READ MY POST AGAIN I DID SAY IT POSTED AT 1.3 OR HALF SPEED WHICH MEANS HALF THE FSB (400)) - i want to know if it will be stable at 400mhz (with a propper 400mhz / 533mhz CPU) (and if its the cpu i used which made it unstable)... Would a P4c in that board cause the instability?

Nah, the C uses the same core as the old 1.8A, just slightly revised for better scaling and with HT enabled. It could be an HT problem, but it's more likely you have a bad board, RAM, or power supply.
