Hi, I have a Gigabyte GA-945PLM-S2 for the motherboard, a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 for cpu, a 480 watt PSU and 2 sticks of 2GB DDR2. I have tested the PSU with a multimeter and it works fine (all voltages are +- 1%).

The system was working fine yesterday with a Intel Pentium D 935 but since i changed to the Q6600 the fans start to spin but i don't hear the beep for the bios. It didn't matter if i had the Q6600, the Pentium D 935 (this one once booted ) or an E8400 neither booted.

Any help is appreciated

A multimeter test is only good to determine that a psu is absolutely dead.
It does not test the proper functioning of the psu.

Since the same psu worked before, I would assume that it is ok.
Do check that all the power leads are properly connected.

Does the bios level of your motherboard support a Q6600?
Go to the gigabyte web site and look for bios downloads for your motherboard..
You should see what cpus are supported at what bios level.

Reinstall the D935 that you know worked.
Try disconnecting the power supply from the wall and see if you can boot.
If not, clear the cmos via the motherboard jumper, or by removing the cr2032 battery.

Once you can reboot, the bios screen should identify the bios level.
If needed, you can then flash the bios to support a Q6600.

Thanks for the fast reply, i tried to plug in the Pentium D 935 again then I removed the cmos battery waited for about 10 seconds plugged it in. However, still when i tried to boot the pc the fans started spinning but i didn't hear the bios beep, I tried to boot several times but i didn't help. Note : the cpu gets kinda warm so I think it works. Since, this pc is built from old parts it may be the motherboard's fault however it is strange since it worked fine yesterday (I was even able to put a hard disk and install a copy of windows).

Thanks again, every help is appreciated.
