GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3 vs. ASUS P5B-E

The DS3 is a solid choice that has reached 500Mhz with some optimizations. But if you can get the right revision for the P5B-E, or a P5B-E Plus it would definetly be the better choice due to the stepping of the chipset.

could u plz help me out on how to pick the right revision

What you need a 1.02G revision, the problem is that since theyre both using a C2 stepping chipset its hard to recognize them. Contact your etailer or look for reviews. This revision reaches ~520Mhz FSB.

I'd go with the DS3 regardless of the revision (if u can get this revision all the better).

So far i've installed about 8-9 DS3 boards, all worked and working without a single problem, setup is a snap, no driver problems.

I can't recommend it more.

As for the asus, i didn't get a chance yet installing the P5B-E, only the P5B and the P5B-VM, everything went well as well but(!) out of 12 total boards i had 3 with problems in them and had to replace them.

Other ones were fine, but i have to admit i like the GB ones more.. it felt like everything was much easier.

Both boards seem to be extremely similar. I'm about to buy the P5B-E only because I need firewire.

Check out this article on Anandtech. Their conclusion is that most of the boards they looked at are close enough that there is no clear performance leader. The DS3 and P5B-E stand out because of the brand reputation and overclockablility. Also a lot of people are using those two boards, so there's a lot of 3rd party info available if you need help setting stuff up.

I also remember reading somewhere that the P5B-E has pretty decent on-board sound (if I find the article I'll post it).
