I am a newbie in this forum, so go easy on me!

My machine configuration is as follows:

* GA-965P-S3
* E2200 + Thermaltake Ultra 120
* GEIL 2x1GB PC6400
* FORTRON FSP AX400
* eVGA 8500GT

I used to run the E2200 @ 300 x 10 and DDR2 @ 800 4-4-4-12

The voltages were as follows:

DDR2: +0.3v
FSB: +0.1v
(G)MCH: +0.1v
Processor: 1.38v

This configuration ran fine without any problems for more than 6 months.

But since yesterday my motherboard stopped POST'ing!!
When I power on my machine, the CPU Fan and System Fan come up and stay On.
The power button lights up and stays on. But I hear no beeps or do not see any display.

I tried the following things:

1. Swapped RAM with one CORSAIR PC6400 module
2. Swapped RAM with one A-DATA PC6400 module
3. Tested PSU with PSU tester and Multimeter as well (It is working fine).
4. When I boot without RAM, motherboard beeps like crazy
5. If I remove the Video Card and boot, I get no beeps.
6. Disconnected the power, pressed power button a couple of times, removed the battery, reset the CMOS... Still no use.

I am at my wits end. Can somebody tell me if there is anything else I can try?

Hi,

I know its been a while since you posted this, but I just came across the same issue last night myself with a similar setup. After a bit of fiddling I managed to get the box back up again. In my case the issue was tracked down to CPU overheating.

A power outage caused my box to go down abruptly. Prevously the box had been runnning continuously for about 2 years without issue. System restarting resulted only in the mobo cycling as described here:

http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1097231.

In my case the mobo runs passive cooling i.e.no CPU fan installed. On abrupt halt the BIOS seemed to get confused and probably reset itself - forgetting that it had no CPU fan. Also in the BIOS the PC health status:CPU warning temperature setting was disabled. These two conditions seemed to be the cause - the mobo would not POST if the CPU was running near the lowest temp warning threshold of 60 deg C, hence the cycling.

So I reconnected the previously mothballled CPU fan, reset the BIOS, let the system cool for about 30 mins (this is crucial) and rebooted. The box POSTed OK, so I then set the BIOS PC health status:CPU warning temperature setting to 70 Deg C, saved and rebooted again.

Box came up again OK. CPU temp settled at a rather high value of 59 deg C, but was stable. Need to look more into the cooling side of things - the passive element should be doing a better job. Or the thermostat was damaged during the outage and is beginning to report false information.

Anyway, hope this helps.

This might seem a dumb question, but I gotta ask before going any further: do you have a case speaker plugged into the 'front panel' SPKR header? Lots of people, I've found, erroneously expect the 'diagnostic beep' function to cone through their regular audio speaker set...

I ran into a similar problem on my gigabyte p35-ds3l rev2 mobo. One day I turned the PC on and the fans went to 100% speed, no beeps or video.. just sat there.

What I did to return to normal:

I found when the PC was in this weird state is I flipped the power supply (rear of PC) power switch off and then on quickly (not super fast but within about 2 seconds OFF then ON) the bios thinks you have a config problem so it reverts back into a previous config and I was able to get into BIOS finally. A bad memory config setting was causing it. I have no idea why it even had a problem in the first place honestly. But I did Load optimized defaults, save, then went back in and changed all my other bios settings to what I wanted, with careful attention paid to my memory timings and voltage.
