Hello, I recently tried building my first computer, following a guide for a cheap gaming pc (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WQxr59KRto&).

The parts are:
GA-970A-UD3P Motherboard
1TB Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 3.5" SATA III Hard Drive
AMD FX-6300 3.50GHz Socket AM3+ 6-Core Processor
8GB (2x4GB) Crucial Ballistix Sport 1600MHz CL9 DDR3 Dual Channel Kit Memory
Sapphire Radeon R9 270x Dual-X Graphics card
EVGA 500W 80 Plus Power Supply

The computer starts up, all the fans spin, LEDs light up, but I get no display whatsoever. I have no idea what's wrong.

I've checked to make sure everything is securely in place within the case, and as far as I can tell, everything is. I've tried googling about for answers but I can't find a damn thing, so I'm here, and hoping anyone around here might have some suggestions.

Yes.

Monitor is a VGA output cable connected to the GPU with a DVI adaptor (I've used two different ones so far with different results, one of the adaptors is filled with pins and the monitor always stays in its self test state like when its turned on but not connected to a computer, the other, with less pins causes the monitor to go straight to standby mode after it turns on if that matters any).

Yeah, just a VGA input slot.

As far as I can tell not a single monitor or TV in my house uses DVI connectors at all.
