recently purchased the GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 MOBO and have been having huge issues with windows install. I'm curious to know if it is a ram issue. I have 4 8gb ram sticks of patriot g2 1333 ddr3 ram. Is this compatable (particularly the 8gb part)?

Solution
About the only thing I can add, is to start with a reset BIOS. Use the onboard jumper, shut off the PSU, remove the CMOS battery, jumper the CMOS pins for ~ 5 seconds as per the MB manual's instructions, replace the jumper to the parking position, replace the battery, turn on the PSU. Then follow this guide: http://www.overclock.net/t/1156654/seans-windows-7-install-optimization-guide-for-ssds-hdds

Read it carefully. You have to do the SSD "clean" as instructed. There are various links to clcik open depending on your situation. This is the guide I always follow when doing a clean Win7 install to a SSD.

I had that same board and CPU on another machine. I am now in the process of installing Win7 again to a SSD but using a...
Yes, totally compatible. Although that is some slow RAM to be used with a processor that can handle up to 1866mhz memory.
However, you may have a faulty stick. Run memtest and have it run on each stick individually for at least one full pass.

Thanks, Ive been having a heck of a time with a simple windows 7 install and RealBeast has been trying to help (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2348211/loss.html#14450554 if you're interested or can help..) and we weren't sure about the 8gb part. The memory was part of my previous computer and I ran memtest on it about 2 weeks ago without an issue. I have 32 gb total and all were checked and fine. its over 2 days now and I cannot get a clean install of windows to finish...ugh

clutchc..thanks for the input. I have done all of this before but I am going another round. when you say you had the same board..was it giving you issues that you are changing mobos or just some other reason?

No, I've never had an issue with a Gigabyte board. I just wanted to try another motherboard. The Gigabyte 990 FXA UD3 is back in its box on the shelf for reuse later. I just wanted to try the Asrock 990FX Killer for awhile.
I've had the 990 FXA UD3 in version 3 and version 4 both. Never an issue at all. Are all 4 RAM sticks from a matched set?

Have you tried installing Win with just a single stick? You can always add the other sticks after Win is installed.
