Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L Rev. 2.4,computer problem with floppy disk.

I built the above computer, and installed a floppy Drive,per instructions in the manual.
problem is, that I get "please Insert diskette into the drive" message when I try to read or copy to a diskette. The drive and cables are installed correctly.
also installed is a SATA Hard Drive, and a SATA DVD/CD-RW combo ROM. Both work fine.
is there something in the BIOS I need to change to get the floppy to work?
or is the motherboard faulty?

Hello... Most cases it's the Floppy or Drive problem,
1) Did you move the write protect tab on Floppy?
2) are you using 1.44m floppies? there are different formant sizes.
2) did you set your BIO's for the proper size/type of Floppy/communication.
3) Not all Floppy drives were created equal and some floppy drives required a special/different flat cable.
4) if your flip the flat cable around, do you get the Floppy Drive to have a Continuous Light on?

ironsounds: The tab is set to open,
I am using 1.44 MB diskettes
The bios is set correctly for the floppy drive
I flipped the cable around, the light does not go on, but I get same result when I insert a diskette.
the floppy drive was purchased new. I tried a floppy from one of my other computers on this computer and got the same result.
someone suggested changing the boot order ,but I don't see how that has anything to do with the floppy working correctly.
got any other suggestions?

Hello... if the READ light doesn't stay on with a flipped cable... ( I figured this out as a quick GOOD/BAD test on them )
1) the power is not connected properly
2) or the cable type is wrong... ( I remember some cabes differences over the span of installing these )
3) or the drive is dead.
4) open the cover to the drive and see if the DISK in switch is obstructed.
PS... I doubt the Floppy is new... THEY stlll make them? I bet they are re-furbished... how much did you Pay? then return it... What brand does it Say? i'm sure they will accept a exchange with those, because they don't even know if they are good or not.
Go to your Local Computer RE-Cycling store and sort though all the old stuff... for a good one.

Plus the red stripe on the IDe cable should be situated next to the Power connection.

Hello... the red/blue strip is always PIN 1, do you have it that way? the Circuit boards/Floppy drive/MB manual, always will display/print Pin 1, for your connecting your cable to both sides.
but like I said, a flipped cable will always get your read light on... if not, BAD drive if you have a known good cable/MB.

what didn't you understand about my post, when I said the drive was installed per the motherboard manual directions.
yes I know about the Pin1.
the IDE Cable on the mother board is oriented correctly so that the Red ribbon is inserted correctly per the manual, and the other end of the cable is oriented per the designation on the drive for Pin1.
I tried a floppy drive from one of my other computers on this computer and got the same result. the problem is either the motherboard, or something in the BIOS, that gigabbyte failed to mention,might need to be changed.i can't read their mind.
