GIGABYTE GA-G33M-S2H - Help what memory?

Hi,

I can not figure out what memory to get for the GIGABYTE GA-G33M-S2H motherboard. I've been looking for hours and Gigabyte doesn't have a list of supported memory. At first I was looking at CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit memory (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820145034), but is it compatible?

I don't know anything about timing, voltage compatibility etc.

So in short, I am looking for 2 gigabyte memory for the Gigabyte GA-G33M-S2H motherboard, what is compatible?

I am using Kingston DDR2-667 2x 1GB on GA-G33M-DS2R, which is probably using a similar PCB layout design and BIOS. The memory modules are using Elpida's DDR2 chips, just for your reference...

I guess it is rather hard to find somebody using the exactly same configuration with you that you can check for comparability (actually people using mainboard with onboard display seldom use PC2-6400 module as they are priced higher...), so I suggest you to check by memory chips. The module you stated are probably using chips from Micron, but not sure if version C4 are using BT37 series or D9...just for reference...

I don't know if bios has this capability. I default to the latter.

The memory you want depends on what processor you are buying.
It is better to buy one step up, if you decide on overclocking.
Please tell us the processor.

The processor is going to be a Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775.

I'm going to build an HTPC, and all the components would consist of:

- GIGABYTE GA-G33M-S2H LGA 775 Intel G33 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
- Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6750
- Western Digital Caviar GP WD10EACS 1TB 5400 to 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
- LG Blu-ray/HD DVD-ROM & 16X DVD±R DVD Burner Black SATA Model GGC-H20L

... and then of course the memory. I doubt I will be overclocking as I wouldn't know how to do it .

I should have put a noob alert up in my original post. You guys know a lot more about this than me, so I'm trying to make sense of it. I just want to make sure that I buy the correct timing and voltage specified memory, so it's ready to go.

You need at a minimum DDR2-667 memory, but I would go for DDR2-800.
Consult the vendor's qualified list for your motherboard.
Good brands are Corsair, Patriot, Crucial Ballistix and OCZ.

Thanks for all the help. I just looked at drysocks post again, and I think I got it . I can use any memory with timing 4-4-4-12 and voltage 2.1V. I'll definitely go for the DDR2-800.

Just called a tech, and I learned a bit more. I can use any timing and voltage for the memory. In regards to the voltage I can change that in the bios to match the memory (standard is 1.8v). In regards to timing that should be auto detected by the motherboard and no adjustments are needed unless I want to overclock it.
