Question Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 rev 3.0 and XMP

My motherboard is Gigabyte Gigabyte GA-H61M-DS2 rev 3.0.

I plan to upgrade from 8gb to 16gb ddr3 RAM and as per my mobo's specs, maximum speed of RAM will be 1333mhz with support for 2200mhz (OC) modules. I searched that when buying a ddr3 1600mhz, it will be automatically downclocked to 1333mhz.
Question is if I buy a XMP type DDR3 module, will it allow me to run it's original speed of 1600mhz? I don't want to tinker into any OCing as much as possible.

EDIT: I have an Ivy bridge i3-3245 CPU and current 8gb ddr3-1333 RAM

if you're adding another 1600mhz, then yes you're going to run it at 1333 due the previous ram ran at 1333. but if your current module is at 1600, then just add another (if you could, matching) 1600 ram. 3rd gen cpus support these 1600 speed.

Thank you for your response. I have only 2 slots of RAM and my current sticks are 4x 2GB DD3 1333. I plan to replace both entirely with pair of DDR 1600. Having said that, will it run at 1600mhz using XMP or still 1333?

if you're using gen 3 intel cpu, you could run 1600 naturally without xmp.

Ok so to confirm my understanding, a pair of DDR3-1600mhz will run at 1600mhz to my motherboard with an Ivy bridge i3-3245 that says support for DDR3 1333mhz and DD3 2200mhz for XMP (w/o using XMP as you have mentioned).

If it is correct then I shall proceed buying a used DDR3 1600Mhz instead of DDR3 1333. Thank you!
