Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L and E7200 (E7300)

Hello,

I've been out of the game for a bit on OC and wondering if anyone has tried to OC a E7200 or E7300 on a GA-P35-DS3L or GA-EP35-DS3L? I was curious if anyone thinks this mobo can handle the 3.8GHz OC since the FSB will have to be 400Mhz. IMO I believe this mobo can handle the 1600Mhz FSB since I was able to boot my E2180 at 3.2Ghz using that and a 8x multi. Problem is I couldn't quite tell for 100% if the high FSB caused it to crash at prime. Reason being is even when using lower FSB's it would still crash, say 320x10 multi, still crash. Just wanted to know if anyone else tried this. Sounds like a good deal for $120 to get a 3.8Ghz dual core with a little more cache. Currently I have a E2180 @ 2.9Ghz.

There used to be that guy with the sniper picture in his avatar that was really into this mobo. But nobody has posted in a awhile. I'm not sure but I think the forums died down a bit.

I have some old text pads with OC's I did with my 2180 and DS3L. I believe I was able to load windows with 400x8 to get 3.2Ghz. But it crashed shortly after. I'll double check my numbers, but I knew I was able to run at 400FSB, problem is I truly believe the cpu was more the issue than the mobo. I had to push it a pinch over 1.5V just to get that speed.

Well I've got the E7300 now and have been messing around with it. @ 1.4v the highest i've been able to get it so far was 3.4ghz, pretty sad really.

Scratch that. I'm just stupid. I've gotten it to boot into windows (and then crash) @ 3.8 now. 4.0 causes bluescreen of death after POST.

I have tried a E8400 on the EP35-DS3L and managed to get up to 3.8Ghz before the RAM became a problem. My guess is you should be able to atleast get to 3.6Ghz. The P35 chipset is quite a bit limiting with out heavy voltages above 400 on the FSB.

True. We no longer have Lupiron, and many others here any more. CompuTronix and a few others are scaling back on posting.

Ah! There you are, good to see your still around, and thanks for that linkage. Page 8 had all the answers I needed. Funny enough I played around with E2180 since I saw the article on the E72/7300 and was able to get 3.1Ghz stable, as opposed to having to do 2.9Ghz for the longest time. I think what helped a lot was leaving the mem multi at 2.00 the whole time, even if it meant the RAM would be at a way lower speed. (Because personally I ran my own tests with low and OC mem speeds and the real difference in games etc was unnoticeable.)

But to bring up another issue, seeing as I am now at 3.1Ghz with my 2180, would it be worth the $120ish to get the 72/7300 at 3.8 or possibly 4Ghz? I notice the 7200 has a bigger cache and I do game at 1920x1200. If you were me, would you get it? Thanks again.

PS. To bad those guys left/cutting back, I remember those names well but even I cut down a lot. I was in the 2180/8800GT being released phase when all kinds of good things were going on in the forums.

Imo, I wouldn't get it. I'll wait till current prices for the E7xxx/8xxx CPUs fall mid next year (due to release of main stream i7)

ive had this same problem in that day, i just bought a E7300 for this exact board. and i just replaced the E2180 aswell. i also had it 3.2 24/7 stable, and i i have it at the same settings as my last chip but if i go anyhigher it will not post. which is weird cause i got this board off a friend and he had an E7200 at 4ghz with this, and i cant get it past 3.2

^Make sure the BIOS settings are right. esp. the RAM voltage/SPD. Also is it the EP-35DS3L or the older P35-DS3L?

I dont think this board is very good for overclocking, I could only get my Q6600 G0 to 3.0 GHz stable no matter how high my voltages were and with all settings optimized.

^ Define "all settings optimized". Btw, what's your CPU VID? You should be able to get 3.6Ghz on the Q6600 with this board as a lot of people have done that. Also did you install DES?

i have a 8800gts oc 640mb with 8gb of ram plugged in to the mobo. 400X8 multiplier. cpu volts are 1.40000, timing for memory are at 5-5-5-15 and ddr2 volts are at 0.2volts. its runs stable, but if anyone has a setting that better please reply and where i can get it to go higher

^ Your settings look right. Have you tried increasing Northbridge voltages? That may allow you to decrease CPU voltages a bit.

I think the board is great for a budget build. I have my E6750 @ 3.7Ghz 1.4125 Vcore and stable. I can boot @ 3.8Ghz but it wanted more than 1.45Vcore and I said enough was enough. It's a great board but I wouldn't buy it again because it doesn't have enough Sata ports and I'd like a Crossfire board as well.

well i got it a little bit higher, i now have it at 3.6ghz, 9X400 multi but i have to up the votages a tad, and my load temps for the CPU are at 47-50C and idle at 40C. but i have the volts 1.432500 now, it wouldnt boot up unless i put the volts here, is this too high?

^No. You are safe up to 1.45v. 1.5v is the point of no return.
