Hi,
Recently I've been having issues with my system.
OS: Windows 10
Mobo:Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD7
Graphics: 2 x Gigabyte GTX480's
Processor: Intel i7 Extreme
Ram: 6 x Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600MHz (totalling 12GB Ram)
PSU: Thermaltake Tough Power Gold 850W (just replaced as I thought this may be the issue)
I also have aftermarket cooling which all appears to be working effectively and have not seen temps rise above 45 degrees celsius in the bios. This problem started about a month ago when I was playing overwatch and my computer randomly shut down without warning. I got the "please wait windows shutting down”. I then rebooted and everything was fine for about another 2 hours before the system did the same thing. The system would from this point shut down as it pleased, sometimes before posting other times after fluffing about windows for 15 minutes.
I purchased some thermal paste, contact cleaner and compressed air, pulled everything out of the case and began rebuilding the system cleaning every visible mm of the Mobo, Graphics cards etc. I also re-applied new thermal past to my CPU and Graphics to insure that the board wasn’t locking me out on high temps.
Once I got everything back together my system lasted a solid week without a single crash and then the issues started again.
I then replaced my antec PSU (which I believe is fine) with a brand new Thermaltake Tough Power Gold 850W and thought I had success. After about 10 minutes I had the same issues again.
I have reset the CMOS, booted the secondary Bios Chip, reset all bios configs to default. I applied insertion rubber to all my stand-offs within the case to insure I was not shorting through the mounts. I also replaced the CMOS/Bios Battery.
This has had me super stumped for about a week and I’m beginning to hit my head against the wall.
To my knowledge I have ruled out:
PSU (by replacing it)
Hi Temp Alarms (by monitoring temps under load using prime95 and applying new thermal paste - note all fans are running and I am getting RPM output in bios)
CPU (as when the computer runs, it actually runs fine)
My gut feeling is that the MOBO is shorting out somewhere but I have checked absolutely every inch of the board for dust. I’d really like to get this board running again as it’s served me well and finding anything to fit my CPU socket is going to be pricey and painful.
I’m open to all suggestions, thank you for your time.
