Question Gigabyte GA-Z270P-D3 motherboard won't boot

Hi there,

I powered down my desktop on Friday as normal. Come Monday morning it refused to power up.

Shorting the pins on the front panel header does nothing. I have checked the 24 pin connector and get all the correct voltages, so the PSU checks out (although I think its fan is gone).

However, if I bridge pin 16 to ground, it will boot up and operate.

Could the tracks have failed between the panel header and Southbridge?

Any help gratefully recevied.

Dan

Thanks for the reply.

It was built shortly after the i5-7600k processor was released.

Easy thing to test though? Tie a cable to the chassis and the other end to an earth/grounded something or other?

Cheers.

I've ordered one.... I've been thinking about upgrading anyway now GPU prices are coming down.

The fan does try to spin when power is first applied with no charge in the capacitors. But only for a split second.

Just to round this off.

I replaced the PSU with a Gigabyte 850W modular unit and took the opportunity to upgrade the cooling for the case.

Booted straightaway so it looks like @Cyberat_88 was spot on with their diagnosis.

Thanks for the advice. It has saved/postponed my having to buy a new motherboard and CPU.

Can't quite decide what to upgrade next... CPU or GPU - currently have a GTX 1650 Super driving 3 monitors at a resolution of 5760 x 1080 and a 1050Ti driving a 4th.

Might want to consider Twin GPUs, though SLI/Crossfire no longer supported in most games, software bog down will cause glitches.
Unless you can find the older GPUs with physical bridges between them.
Also split monitors evenly between them 2 and 2.
