Greetings !

As you can see in the title i'm wondering between these 2 GPU's that currently cover my budget. Will be using them mainly for gaming. If you have other better GPU recommendations i'll be glad to read them. 1080p Gaming.

CPU: i5-4690 3.50GHz
RAM: 16GB
GPU: GTX 960 2GB

I usually play basic games that do not require a really powerful GPU,mainly PUBG,World of Warcraft,Fortnite,League of Legends,R6 etc. But since a lot of good games are coming up that require something better than my GTX 960 i decided it is time to upgrade.

CPU: i5-4690 3.50GHz
RAM: 16GB
GPU: GTX 960 2GB

I'd say a 960 to a 1060 is a little sideways as an upgrade, the 1070's might start to drop in price with the 1160 due, if you can wait for a while, then i'd keep a eye open and jump on bargains in the 1070 range. The worst 1070 is much much better than the best 1060.

In the UK i'm seeing some overlap with there being 1060's that are more than the 1070 mini.

You are seeing the two schools of thought here by the way. I would buy a GPU and underutilise it knowing that my next CPU update I can reuse the GPU and get a benefit. Others are less inclined to do so. Neither is wrong.

It might depend on when you plan for a CPU upgrade, 6-12 months then go big on the GPU, 24+months size the GPU just right as when you do the CPU update it'll be 2 generations old

Apologies for earlier, I thought we were comparing 1060's not 2060 to a 1060.

I haven't really thought about a CPU upgrade. Either way i really like the 2060,so i'm guessing go for an i7 CPU?

It depends, if you get the 2060, sometimes, in some games (perhaps most games depending on resolution) the 4690 won't be able to keep it fed, so it'll be underutilised. Psychologically is that a problem for you? You may experience stutters as the CPU struggles, 4 cores are much less cutting edge now than only 18 months ago.

I think i'd rather not spend money on CPU as well, and mine is going in its 3rd year now. I will stick with only GPU for now. All i really need is to play the upcoming games with above 60 FPS average.

I think it'll manage, However my 3570k @4.3 struggled on the division (last new AAA title I played) it simply didn't have enough cores, it was playable, well above 60, but sometimes a little unstable, I actually had to modify what cores it was using, and make it run on 3 and then it was fine. So to set expectations, it'll be OK, it'll be good, but it might not be brilliant 100% of the time, maybe 80-90%

4 cores are not enough for games nowadays,i'm getting old. Well i'll think about 1060 and 1070, thank you very much for your time 1 :)
