Hi im just wondering if 50c idle is normal for this gpu.
it does get higher in fact because my fans kick in at 50c for 50%
then it goes back down to 45c than the fans go off.
Thats a loop that happens every 3 min.
ambient temp around 23c

  1. is this normal for this gpu?
  2. will this damage the fans?

Specs:
cpu: intel i7 10700k
Ram: corsair vengeance 32gb ram ddr4 3600mghz
Storage: 2x m2 samsung 970 evo plus 1tb
mobo: asus rog strix z490-e gaming
GPU: RTX 3080 gigabyte
Water cooler: corsair H115i rgb pro
PSU: Corsair RM850

fans:
3x 140mm fans on front as intake at 700rpm
2x 140mm fans on top as exhaust for my AIO between 600-1100 rpm
1x 140mm fan at the back as exhaust on 700rpm

Some NEW Gpu's have a time when they are new in your pc build... when they do that, it might seem strange at first, fans spinning every too often...but it's normal and you will likely see that it does that less and less as time goes on, so too you will become accustomed to the correct settings (finding them by trail and error) witch makes the GPU run optimal.

That's called 0 rpm feature. Pretty much under a certain temp the fans won't spin. It's perfectly normal and 50 degrees in idle are pretty much what you'd expect from modern gpu, especially if you're watching vids. It won't damage anything don't worry :D

If that truly bothers you (it shouldn't, but hey, it's not my rig) you can disable that via the software gigabyte uses to monitor its fans.

How hot do you keep your home? Is your case under the desk or out in the open? We got very very similar builds and my gigabyte GV 3090 only idles at 41-44C under heavy load like maxed Forza or RDR2 is gets up to 61-64C .
Specs .

cpu: intel i7 10700k
Ram: corsair vengeance 32gb ram ddr4 3600mghz
Storage: 1x m2 samsung 970 evo plus 1tb
2x 860 Evo 500gb
Mobo: Gigabyte z490 Master
GPU: Gigabyte RTX 3090 gigabyte
Water cooler: corsair H150i elite
PSU: Evga g5 1000w Gold
Case: Phantek Enthoo Pro
Fans: Front- intake x2 Thermaltake Pure Duo 140MM

AIO is running 600-1200 and everything else is 700 and my room temp is around 24C
hmm then i dont know what it could be. maybe its normal for this gpu.

I've seen a bunch of people tearing the cards apart and dropping 10-15C just from swapping the thermal pads , I'm not comfortable enough to do that myself with a 2k graphics card but it is an option.

Update:
I think the temps rise so much because of the spikes it has. and because the fans run on 0 rpm until 50c it slowly warms up because of the spike
can i do something about those spikes?

I haven't seen anything to fix the spikes yet and from what I've seen its normal. I'm not a fan of it myself I didn't have faith in my 750W psu when I obtained the 3090 so I paired it with the 1000w. I think alot of the early issues with the cards had been a combination of people running it with not enough PSU to handle the spikes, Not enough cooling in the machine while overclocking the card, and the factory defect of the 8pin connector issue. I could be wrong but the early runs on the gigabyte and evga cards didn't look promising. I'm still considering a few things with mine for temps, I may take a holesaw to my case window and slap x2 140mm fans as exhaust on the side of the case, perhaps try to rest a smaller AIO on the backplate like a corsair H100 and the other two last resorts being swapping the thermal pads or adding a waterblock.
