Gigabyte gtx 1050 gets hot while playing ROTR

i was playing rise of the tomb raider at custom high to very high settings with my gigabyte gtx 1050 2gb at 900p when i noticed that temperature was going above 70 and maxing at 79-80 celcius. i was just curious bcz i play gta v and the temp remains at 60-67 celcius. my question is should i be concerned about this. i have an i5 2500 with 8 gb ddr3 ram. and my cpu temp max at 65. it is gigabyte gtx 1050 2gb d5 card with single 90mm fan. and the fan stays off untill temp is higher than 60.

GPUs will thermal throttle on their own if they reach too high a temperature. If you don't see a huge dip in FPS, you probably aren't thermal throttling and it it should be alright. If you really aren't liking those high temperatures, you can always change your fan profiles in MSI after burner such that the fans come on earlier and at a higher speed. Do note that this would make your pc a lot noisier.

I'd be happy at 80 peaking to 85.

i think that's normal. ROTR is more demanding than GTA 5 GPU wise. if you want the temp to be much lower then try using your own curve instead of let the card automatically handle the fan speed. there is a lot of third party overclocking tool offering direct control of GPU fan speed but i recommend MSI After Burner.

ok one time i did notice a huge dip in fps and that was the time when the temperature maxed to 80 celcius. also it was the first time i ran ROTR. after a couple of time i played the temp remains around 75 higher or lower. and its the only game that does this to gpu.. i guess its fine afterall.

Max permissable temp is 97, so it would not have been throttling at 80.

Max permissable temp is 97, so it would not have been throttling at 80.

yeah like a said the default setting for fan is to stay off untill its below 60 c. so i think it gets hot because of that. peaks and then cools down very quickly when i quit the game

It will obviously cool down quickly when you stop playing, but that is more or less irrelevant. The question is, is the fan profile aggressive enough to manage the temps.
