I have been planning on trying out a used GTX 1060 3gb GPU for a while now and just finally have the time and gumption to hit the power button. A little nervous as it's been a while that I've had a slightly newish GPU. I know, I know. Anyway I just want to try out the card after installing drivers and play an old nfs game for an hour or so to to confirm some sort of functionality.

Set up is

Lenovo H430 core i3 2120
8gb Corsair ram
Single DVD
Stock case fan
Antec earthwatts 500D PSU.

First of all I realize this is not a gaming machine and have been told that the PSU is older and lacking. I understand that. I did have someone give me a brand new in the box Apevia WR680 PSU. Any thoughts there?

Anyway my question is on the Antec PSU it has (2) 6+2 pci-e cables coming directly out of the PSU as this is non-modular. Would it be a good idea, or in this case even make a difference to use one 6 pin from one pci-e cables, and the break away 2 from the other to connect into the GPU. No difference? Maybe a really ridiculous question but want to cover all bases.

Thank you very much in advance.

There's no reason to do that.

Also, while your current PSU is old and not-so-good, but the other Apevia is utterly cheaply made junk. I wouldn't use either PSU, but I'd use the Antec before even touching the Apevia, which should be at a recycling center, not at danger of being used in a PC.
