Gigabyte GTX 1080 VBIOS update

Reading around the interwebs I found that an annoying issue with my G1 card is the fans, they never truly stop running even if they're set to 0%. A vbios update apparently fixes this, so I'm thinking of flashing a new one. However I'm getting a bit of a mixed signal.

The Gigabyte EXTREME Gaming engine is offering me a vbios version F2, which is correct since I have F1, but in the update notes it reads "Release for Samsung Memory" where I have Micron GDDR5X. That's a bit strange since it's the official app and it's the auto update feature. On gigabyte's own website they offer another F2 vbios version for "Micron Memory" which I assume is for my card.

So at the moment I'm going with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. (It is broke since the update should fix it.) I guess my question is, is it worth trying to flash the card? The obvious risk is the card dying and me having to RMA it (which is kinda costly where I live). And if the fix is only for the fan issue, which I can go around by just disabling the 0% fan speed in the graph.

Try afterburner again and don't leave it running in background, I meant your MOBO bios but that was just to see if there might be a fan speed setting in there for your GPU. But yes, I would not try to...
I'd not start trying to flash until you've tried all other possible solutions. It doesn't seem like a big deal and you could try to see if there is any settings in your BIOS, or read the card's manual for info on setting fan speeds. Is your card Overclocked? Also try using MSI Afterburner to adjust fan speeds.

Like I said, don't fix it if it ain't broke. And since the card functions well and I can circumvent the issue by not using 0% anywhere in the fan speeds. What do you mean check the BIOS? You mean the mobo's bios, I have no clue how to check the vbios - if that's even possible. My card is factory oc'd and I'm currently overclocking it myself.

I also used Afterburner before, but there was a strange issue with my games locking to a laggy 20 fps with it, though I believe it might've been due to the early beta version I was using then.

But yes, I would not try to flash the vbios, because that can make your problems go from 3%-100% REAL QUICKLY. (unless it goes perfectly smoothly but we're talking about very expensive PC parts here so that's probably not going to happen.)
